Transition- the perfect mix
of
Skins and Misfits?
This December E4 airs
the grittiest teen drama of them all.
Directed by one of the makers of Skins, Jamie Brittain, and produced by Silverlining Productions; Transition is set to raise the bar of past adolescent series. With featuring Actress, Antonia Thomas (Alisha in Misfits) as the lead, reviewers are sure this diverse programme will gain a fantastic follow up. The show portrays a realistic picture of teen life and the reckless behaviour of youngsters in modern society. Jamie Brittain noted that he wanted to create ‘a different feel’ of this new teen drama, quite separate from the likes of Misfits and The Inbetweeners.
Transition
features the life of Mollie Jones. A typical loud-mouthed chav who is faced
with the tough decision of becoming a true, independent woman or to carry on
with the life others seek for her- being part of a communal gang. The Narrative
in the opening scene includes the life of teens involved with gang culture;
bolder, prominent themes to those shown in other dramas. For example: Crime,
Drugs, Alcohol, and Teen Pregnancy. The ‘Full Monty’.
Because of the
shows edgier and boundary-pushing motifs, this drama appeals mostly to young
adults, both female and male, who are searching for personal identity. Through
each intriguing character, such as Jake Robertson who is played by Nicholas
Hoult, (Series 1 of Skins) as our preppy-posh boy looking for an adventure, the
audience can relate to the demographics the show is based on: self-image,
class, education, religion and race. Transition attempts to tell an honest
story about today’s teens.
Compared to the
vast range of characters in Skins, Transition focuses more on a certain few of
the shows participants. Knuckling right down to their personalities, so the
audience feel as if they know them inside-out. Skins however ran out of steam,
but this shouldn't overshadow Transition’s future successes. But what do you think? Will this all-new
gritty drama be the top of your list this Christmas?
